Ken Vasey
Ken and Cindy

Ken's love affair with farming began when he was growing up in Marysville picking in the fields in the summers. He studied forestry and agricultural in high school, going on to a forestry program at Washington State University. In spite of following a non-farming career path for many years, Ken never lost touch with his love of farming.

Ken purchased Terrapin Farms in the mid-1990's. Starting with plums, raspberries, and strawberries, Ken has grown Terrapin Farms to include dozens of new fruit trees including Frost Peaches and Asian Pears, multiple varieties of blueberries and raspberries, and a large variety of vegetables. The addition of a large greenhouse will expand the farm even more.

Cindy grew up in Marin County, California, and moved to Kitsap County in January of 2002. While her mother had a green thumb, Cindy had more of a black thumb. Then a funny thing happened, Cindy realized her severe allergies were food related and organic or natural food became extremely important to her. She went back to college and graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor's of Arts in Environmental Studies from Antioch University in Seattle.

In 2006 Cindy met Ken while they were both working in Seattle and commuting on the ferry. To be able to spend any time with Ken during those first fall months, Cindy began volunteering her time helping Ken at the Kingston Farmer's Market. It didn't take long before Cindy was hooked - on both Terrapin Farms and its dedicated owner. Now Cindy is a full partner with Ken in working the farm.

Max
Max and The Things

What farm is complete without its dog!? Ours certainly isn't. Max is the best dog - smart, mostly obedient, playful, and young at heart. His favorite activities include patrolling the orchard to keep pesky deer at bay, chasing anything thrown for him (balls, frisbees, Kongs, sticks, rocks, windfall apples... seriously, he'll chase anything!), and napping on his gigantic dog bed pillow. Max has been Ken's faithful companion for a number of years and is getting used to the new household additions: two Siamese-mix kittens.

Every farm needs rodent control in the form of a feline (or two). On April 25th we picked up two kittens, officially known as Thing One and Thing Two. They're cute, energetic, and driving Max insane by jumping his tail every change they get. The kittens are fearless and friendly and darling little fluffs of fur. We have high hopes for their hunting abilities in the future based on their current exploits with their cat toys and our fingers under the covers! They're basically identical and we can only tell them apart by picking them up (Thing Two is slightly smaller and doesn't like being picked up unless it is her idea first!) or watching their behavior with anything new. Thing Two is definitely more adventurous and Thing One is more of a cuddle-kitty. We're very happy with the new members of our family!
